A Little About Tires

Because tires are the only part of the car that touches the ground, Your safety is riding on your selection and care of your tires, the only part of your car that actually touches the ground. If you Invest wisely in good, quality tires they should give you safe, worry-free driving for many miles.

Simply put, are three categories of tires:

  1. All-Season
  2. High-Performance
  3. Winter/Snow

The most affordable of these three are All-season tires. They are designed to work efficiently in dry, wet, snowy or even slushy driving conditions.

High-Performance tires have stiff sidewalls and high traction that emphasize a solid 'grip' on the road. These tires are not the most comfortable or fuel efficient tires, however they are popular with those who want to get the real 'feel of the road!'

Look for snow tires on all four wheels for the best control and mobility during winter conditions. They have small grooves in the treads allowing better handling in extreme conditions. You can also add studs to these tires to provide even better traction.

No matter what tire kind of tire you decide to purchase, you can be sure that your NAPA AutoCare Center has the widest selection, best discount pricing and most efficient service in town!

How to Tell When You Need Tires

There are a couple ways to check and see if you should replace your used and worn tires. Walk around your car frequently watching for low or flat tires. Frequently, you should check your tire pressure and look for problems with treads and extra wear on the sidewalls. Check the tread on both sides and in the center of each tire. Tears, uneven wear, bumps, blisters or cuts on the sidewalls mean you definitely should replace your tires Any of these signs of wear or damage can be signs of improper inflation, improper wheel alignment and could lead to break-downs or more major problems.

The old 'Penny Method' can be used to check the depth of treat on your tires. Take an Abe Lincoln penny and insert it, head first, into the groove of the tread. If Mr. Lincoln's head is not visible then it is likely your tire has good tread, but if you can see part of his head, it's time to get your tires checked.

If you need to replace your tires, you can trust the professional ASE Certified Technicians at your favorite NAPA AutoCare Center to help you decide on the best tire for your driving needs.
